I was interested in Big Pharma since it is a huge problem that I am very passionate on fixing in this country. It was a project I had wanted for a while. This is an issue I like to research and discuss since it is actually starting to affect my life. I learned that insulin costs 3-6 dollars to make and is sold for around $600 in this country. I also learned that cancer drugs cost $10,000 routinely in the United States.
EnglishFor the English portion of my reasoning project I researched Big Pharma to support my reasoning behind why I think Big Pharma is bad and why the United States needs universal healthcare. I really wanted to challenge myself and try something new for this project. I decided to do a rap script which is something I got the idea for even before incubation. My process consisted of research on things such as medical bills in America, expensive drug prices in America, the Opioid crisis, and universal healthcare in places such as the United Kingdom and Canada to support my reasoning for criticizing Big Pharma and my support for universal healthcare in the United States. After I collected my research I started writing a diss track rap script against Big Pharma that incorporates my research as well as some insults. The rap is an AXXA rhyme scheme. After I wrote the diss track script, I would then record myself singing it. I wanted to take something that was important to me and still educate people on it while having some fun and creating something new with it.

Self in the Modern WorldFor the self in the modern world portion of my project 3 I began my process by researching how America's reliance on prescription drugs made people more lack the motivation to stay healthy and take care of themselves. I was at first struggling to come up with what to research and focus on for self in the modern world. Mr. Wimmer suggested I take a look at health habits in America and how it created a reliance on Big Pharma and prescription drugs. I looked at certain foods, ingredients, and preservatives that we use in America that are banned in places such as Europe. I also did research on the overprescription of painkillers and antibiotics and how that has created problems such as addiction, overdosing, poverty, and antibiotic resistant superbugs. For my final product, I was going to write a short story about my experience with Big Pharma and how they have negatively effected me or my family but I went another direction and wrote a short story to back up my reasoning on why Big Pharma is bad and that we should stop overusing medications. My short story was about someone I made up who got the MRSA superbug. In my story, I use the MRSA superbug as my reasoning behind why Big Pharma and even doctors should stop overusing antibiotics and other drugs.
